1996 CRUISE LOGS
Houston to Galveston, TX and Offshore Fishing
June 28 - 30, 1996

Our friends aboard M/V NORDIC loved to fish, and they invited us to go offshore fishing with them.  We took our own boats to Galveston, TX on the evening of June 28, which was a Friday.  We bought gasoline at Lakewood Yacht Club as we left Clear Lake; the price was $1.50 per gallon.  We got slips at Galveston Yacht Basin, which is a convenient place to begin an offshore fishing trip.  We cooked chickenInland Cruising - Captain Marc moving us out in the early morning and took it next door to eat with Marc and Cindy.

Inland Cruising - Sunrise over the eastern Gulf of Mexico     On Saturday, June 29, we were up at 4:30am.  We left the slip in M/V NORDIC at 5:45, and we cleared the jetties at 6:30.  Sometime after 8am we reached the Buccaneer Rigs, about 25 miles offshore.  The weather was fine; it was a great day.

Inland Cruising - Marc shows us how it's done: two at a time
We tied up to one of the oil rigs with the wind pushing us away from the legs of the rig.  By 10:30 we had caught 20 red snappers, all we were allowed to keep.  Inland Cruising - We caught our legal limit of red snapperWe began to troll for King Mackerel, called Kings, or Kingfish.  We ate lunch while trolling.  Angela caught a couple of kings, and she really enjoyed catching them.  They are fighters, and she had to work to keep them on the hook and get them into the boat.  We lost one or two more.  We caught a few more keepers, putting back those that were too small.  We filled up the ice chest with fish.

We returned to Galveston Yacht Club about 4pm, collected our boat, and motored back up the Houston Ship Inland Cruising - Marc, Cindy, David, and Angela - the proud fishermen and fisherwomenChannel to South Shore Harbour.  Then we cleaned fish, cooked fish, and ate fish for dinner.  They were very good.Inland Cruising - David cleaning fish at the dock

On Sunday, June 30, we cleaned M/V NORDIC, which always needs doing after a fishing trip.  Then we took our small piece of chain off our anchor, for some reason, and went to Lakewood to buy fuel.  We then anchored out in Galveston Bay, relaxed, and ran our dinghy for a few hours.

After we got our boats back into South Shore and cleaned up, we all went to a local Mexican food restaurant for some different food.  It was a nice weekend.
