M/V ILLUSIONS
COMMENTS
The following are selected comments we have
received about INLAND CRUISING:
From Bill in FL:
Thank you for
providing this wonderful site. What
a great idea to travel from CT to TX inland.
I'm sure most folks don't even know this can be done.
I certainly had no idea HOW to do it.
I grew up in the Buffalo, NY area and had forgotten how great the
rise was from Lake Ontario to Port Colborne on Lake Erie.
I also was unaware of the Oswego Canal to Lake Ontario.
These canals are monumental engineering works.
I have been thinking lately about cruising
the Great Lakes during the summers and your trips are a real inspiration.
For wilderness and civilization in combination I suspect that the
great lakes cannot be beat.
Your site
is especially inspiring to me in that it is highly successful in sharing
an experience that is wildly out of the range of many people to
experience. But yet you have
provided a means for others to experience this wonderful adventure.
I view this as a profound act of love on your part and thank you
and your family for enriching my life by sharing your experience.
From Jay in IN:
Hi, My name is Jay. I am the fella who met you at the Hammond, IN
marina. Had an opportunity to look at your web site . Aside from documenting an exciting adventure and providing first hand "boating" experiences, I believe the site will inspire other boaters to take the challenge . I know it's sure got me considering such a trip.
Anyway lots of luck . It was nice meeting you. Jay
From Kris in TX:
I finally have made it to your site and it is great.
I really like the pictures and the stories of each trip. I haven't looked at all of them yet, but the ones
that I have I really enjoyed. My favorite is the 2000 cruising the Hudson
again. It looks like you get to see a lot of history.
Good luck with your site and keep having fun,
Kris
From Dave:
Hi David, I'm reading your log of your trip on
ILLUSIONS, and I just wanted to thank you for posting such an interesting
site. I especially enjoy the photos. You've got some great
shots! Thanks again for a great site. Regards, Dave
From Bill in Ontario:
David, Glad I found your site! As I sit in my
home in Ontario, it is 30 something degrees outside. My boat is in
Orilla on Lake Simcoe (hauled of course) which I know is no warmer than
here. Sure is nice to read about summer adventure in the
winter. I look forward to cruising beyond the Trent Severn and Lake
Huron someday, and I'm sure your books will be a great asset.
Cheers, Bill
From Daniel in Mississippi:
Thanks for sharing your experiences with us
online. I have truly enjoyed reading every word. It's like I
have been able to travel with you and Angela. Thanks again,
Daniel
From Carol:
Thanks for your website. Looking forward to
making the ICW adventure someday, and I appreciate your detailed
insight. Thanks! Carol
From William in NC:
Dear David, I stumbled over your web site and
have enjoyed your exploits very much. You must realize how
informative your logs and details are to someone like me. Thank you
for a delightful trip through your experience. Sincerely, William
From Graham:
I will be ordering your videos, et al in the near future, but I wanted to say
first how I truly loved your story on the internet. It kept me absolutely spell-bound, with every written word, every picture and every map of your voyage.
As a lifetime sailor, (sailboat person, that is), and with a life-long desire to sail the inland waterways of
North America, you have sparked a dream that will certainly become a reality one day for me as well!
I'm so ready to do that ever so horrid move, from sailboat to stink-pot, and do it with the grace of an adventurer, in order to
live what you did and so kindly shared with the rest of us dreamers.
Thanks
Graham
From Dottie in TX:
David and Angela,
I really enjoyed your web-site. Especially since I was just 10 days in
the Bahamas. I loved the Bahamas. We flew into Marsh Harbour and stayed in a private rental home there in Marsh Harbour. We went to a lot of
the Cays from there. We went to all the ones you had on your
web-site. We went to some you didn't have on your site. We saw the Junkanoo
festival in Green Turtle Cay on New Year's Day. It was really a neat
celebration. Lots of boaters who were cruising were there to see it.
It was a glorious, sunny day. I loved Little Harbour. We just drove there by car. I could go on and on but I know you have done it all and
MORE!!! What a life cruising like you and Angela do. Thanks for sharing your web site.

peaceful and relaxing inland cruising can be...maybe the Hudson valley.
Kind regards, Michael
Again from Michael in CA:
David:
Thank you so much for the personalized Log ...and video...
You've done a really great job of organizing the log books...easy to read
both in content and graphics...and of course I'd already read the first series from downloading off the web site...but...your log books are a
best-buy...as they don't have all the internet reference codes, don't split
sentences like our laser printer does, the pictures are in color and you don't have to punch the pages for a 3-ring binder!
Michael
From Mark in TX:
Nice web site. I just added it to my favorites.
Your picture of the South Manitou Island Lighthouse brings back many
memories. I've been in that light tower--I spent all my summers at Glen Lake (Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes) growing up. Glad you had the opportunity to
enjoy this country. Thanks for sharing.

From Fred in Washington, D.C. area:
All too often we don't take the time to thank
or tell the person who spends time and effort for our pleasure. We
have exchanged a couple of emails, mostly to my advantage and at the
expense of your time. We honestly love your writing style and the
details of your trips. Don't change a thing!
Warm regards, Fred
From Rob in PA:
Just wanted to let you know I ran
across your adventures by accident and have enjoyed reading them. One of the places you stopped last year will actually be our Marina this year. Schenley (Pa). Last year we took our pontoon boat from Kittanning to Lock 9 and back one weekend and then from Kittanning to Lock 2 and back the following weekend. Might not sound like
a lot but that was a 20' Lowe Suncruiser with a 9.9HP on the back.
Anyway, wasn't the area between Lock 8 and 9 the most beautiful? You should see it in the fall!
Now we have traded in our Pontoon and are anxiously awaiting the arrival of our new Bayliner 2455 Ciera
Sunbridge. Our adventures will include the Mon, Allegheny and Ohio
Rivers - weekend cruises. We also have plans to go to Lake Erie (via trailer to Erie, PA) to cruise to Buffalo and through parts of the Erie Canal at least to Lake
Seneca. Later on in the year we plan to go to the Islands in the western part of Lake Erie (Bass Islands).
If you would like to keep track of our adventures please feel free to bookmark this page:

You did a great job of documenting your trips. I decided to start mine after reading one from the Capt of the "Lady Jane" in Rochester NY. I figured
now's the time to keep track of our adventures.
Thanks for your time,
Rob
From Lee in Virginia:
David,
I wanted to let you know that I have spent the past couple of days
reading the cruise logs, on your web page, of your adventures. As a Native Texan (West Texas Midland/Odessa/Pecos), recently
relocated close to the Chesapeake Bay, I certainly have enjoyed sharing in your travels. My wife and I hope that someday soon
we will be seeing some of the places you have written about.
Best Regards,
Lee
From Phil in Indiana:
David,
I've just finished reading your logs from the 1997 and 2001 cruises. I
really enjoyed your descriptions of the rivers and various experiences.
Of particular interest were your impressions of places that I too have visited.
Thanks for sending those logs and for taking the time to detail your
trips for the rest of us. Great fun!
Phil
